Solution to Overcoming Sinus Infections
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, the latest type of sinus surgery, is offered as an in-office procedure at Carreño ENT Partners for patients who suffer from severe sinus infections.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is performed entirely through the nose, unlike in the past, when sinus surgery was performed through external incisions and caused significant discomfort and scars. The endoscope is a very thin and small fiber-optic tube, which is inserted into the nose for a direct visual examination of the openings into the sinuses. This allows us to see inside the nose and sinuses, with a special video camera attached to the endoscope. Additionally, we perform using the latest technology, which includes using an image-guidance device (surgeon’s GPS) which significantly decreases the risk of surgical complications.
Benefits of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Dr. Carreño and the Miami ENT team recommend Endoscopic Sinus Surgery to a patient whenever there’s an obstruction blocking the sinus or inflammation of the sinus lining (mucus membrane) blocking the sinuses. We find this surgery to be minimally invasive, highly effective and beneficial.
Some of the benefits of having Endoscopic Sinus Surgery are:
- Significantly improves sinus symptoms
- Improves the drainage pathway of sinuses
- Reduces sinus infections
- Able to use medications like nasal sprays, rinses, etc.
- Doesn’t leave any scars
What to expect after Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
The recovery period depends on the procedure that was performed and on the individual patient; most patients don’t have much pain after the surgery is completed and experience a rapid recovery. One can usually expect to be back to normal activities within 2 days to 2 weeks after the procedure.
We here at Carreño ENT Partners will take the best care of you and will do all in our power to make this as comfortable for you as can be. We may place you on medications such as nasal sprays and antibiotics post surgery. Our patients who have received Endoscopic Sinus Surgery have seen significant improvements in their symptoms and are pleased with the results of the procedure.
